As you know Build configurations are associated with Solution(.sln) files in Visual Studio 6 and later. So how will you enable/disable the Build Configuration menu item in Visual Studio 2005. Follow the below steps to do that

Steps:

a) Open Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 -> Open Project
b) Go to Tools -> Options
c) Choose "Projects and Solutions" and "General" tab
d) Check/Uncheck the check box item "Show advanced build configurations"

Now you are all set to get the Build Configuration menu item under Build Menu.
